M1860 Cavalry saber

I have become interested in obtaining a M1860 saber. I know absolutely nothing about them and would like to avoid some of the pitfalls out there. The only way I know to do that is with knowledge. I was hoping someone here could steer me in the direction of a couple of good reference books to help me on my quest. Thanks.

Most collectors prefer the war used dates as there were many model 1860' with late war 1864 - 1865 dates that were never issued. Below are books I have in my library that will be very helpful and also here is a link to a great site that will also help you out. Please let us know how it goes.

if i recall the 1840 heavy cav saber and and 1860 light cav sabor are very similar. As per norm (with swords)I'm probably wrong on this.

To sword collectors the M-1840 and M-1860 are very dis-similar!
