Sergeant David Beverly 97th N.Y. Age 27 years, he enlisted 26 October 1861 at Brocketts Bridge, and mustered in as Sergeant, Company D, 97th New York Infantry on 6 November 1861.He was wounded in the leg action at Antietam on 17 September 1862. He was treated at the Smoketown Hospital at Sharpsburg, MD, and his left leg was amputated. He was discharged for disability at Smoketown on 8 December 1862. He would live to the age of 72 and had 4 children
His brother was lieutenant colonel John Beverly of the 34th N.Y. infantry
