Lookups?

Do we have a listing of who will do lookups - volunteer or otherwise - and where? Or could we start one?

To the best of my knowledge, such a list does not exist. Members with access to such information are free to generously volunteer help or not, as they wish.

Your best bet is to post your request in the Researching Your Ancestors forum and hope for the best:

Just post an inquiry here Researching Your Civil War Ancestors and you will get some quick and informative replies. Just be sure to make clear what your need. Some will post a comment here about their ancestor with no question so it is read with no replies.

Years ago, I would receive emails via my WW2 site and they would tell me about their family's Veteran. I would write a 1 page reply about his unit and where he was probably killed etc and send it. Then I get the reply of something like: Oh, I already knew that, I just wondered what was the name of the ship they sailed on. I quickly learned not to waste time searching answers for a question never asked.

I just don't know how we could Post a List. The Moderator could create a thread that stays at the top of the Forum. However, that would seem to be encouraging people to carry the dicussion off line or in a Private IM.
However, if someone posts their requests publicly on this catergory, it usually gets a lot of replies and posts with photos and OR's etc.
