Are there any Confederate reenactors here who live on or near the Virginia middle peninsula who would like to participate in a headstone dedication of a soldier? I'm looking for seven men for a rifle salute. And four to serve as a color guard carrying the US, Virginia, Confederate national, and Confederate battle flags.

I knew some of you would be interested in knowing who's to be honored so here's the three men I'll be getting headstones for. All will be dedicated on a different date.

The Mathews Journal (Mathews, Va.),
Thursday, March 13, 1913, p.4, c.2

Thomas J. Machen died at his home near Hicks Wharf, Friday afternoon in the 86th year of his age. Mr. Machen had been in failing health for some time but none thought that his departure was so near at hand and when it was announced that he had passed to his reward it proved to be a great surprise. He was the last of the trio, who actively engaged in the erection of the building in which the Providence congregation now worships. Mr. Machen took the vow of the Methodist church and became a member of the providence Society on the 4th of August, 1878, under the ministry of the Rev. W. W. Royall, then pastor of West Mathews Circuit.

Mr. Machen leaves a widow, Mrs. Athalia Machen, and four sons, Messrs. V. H., C. H., Luther and Sidney, and a daughter Miss Leonora.

The pastor conducted the funeral services at the house Sunday afternoon and the burial was at Providence cemetery and in charge of Mr. Diggs of Port Haywood.

I'm uncertain about George White's birth and death dates at this time so if anyone could help me out with him I'd greatly appreciate it.

I mentioned your proposed event to the guys. Without a firm date, no one was willing to commit. Also, it seems they all live in the Winchester, Maryland, and WV area.........even further away than I am.
