I'm new to this, so please consider I'm not sure how to ask for help & info.
I have a newly acquired P53 rifled musket. It has all the normal dimensions / markings, etc. I was from a family in South Carolina. I would like to know if it was really with the CSA or possibly a battlefield pick-up of a Union gun. I have the musket with bayonet, scabbard & frog. The leather is black on both pieces plus the frog has two rivets ( to me , indicated union made? The stock has initials just forward of the but plate tang of "LHA". The Butt plate tang has "63" stamped on the top. Any ideas? Thanks Larry

Without pictures you will at best get WAGs aka wild ahem guesses.

Welcome, make sure to include in your pictures a close up of the lock and any markings/stamps anywhere on the gun and the experts here can tell you what you have.

And yes, your bayonet scabbard with 2 rivets in the belt loop would be a Federal issue scabbard but certainly used when acquired by Confederates as well. Scabbards with a frog are a little different style, they were two piece with the frog being the belt loop part of it. English style scabbards were like this as well as sword bayonet scabbards.
