If you prefer something not quite so long, or expensive, I'd suggest Benjamin P. Thomas' Abraham Lincoln. Originally published in 1952, this beautifully written bio has been reissued in paperback (with a forward by that other guy).

It might fortify the most venomous of Lincoln haters, as they might pick pieces from it to substanciate their denigrations, without understanding that it is not an anti-Lincoln book.
No doubt, Abe was attacked by several factions in the North, and just about every faction in the South.
