Lincoln's Last Act...

Hey, all,

I grew up in Nebraska...although I have lived in East Tennessee 25+ years now. A few years ago, my home state did a series of videos in honor of their sesquicentennial including this one about Abraham Lincoln's last act. I had no idea!

Now You Know Nebraska - Lincoln's Last Act
Watched the short video - I had no clue about it, but can see how it would be especially interesting to a Nebraskan.

Yep, I knew this! Being a Nebraskan and a history teacher, these videos for the state's 150th celebration were really good. My mom lives in the county named for Saunders.

What part of Nebraska did you live?

Thanks for the link - I grew up in Omaha, but didn't know this. I remember not knowing much of any connection of Nebraska to the Civil War until playing the game Bloody April (Shiloh) and having a unit labeled "1st Neb." - that prompted a lot of research in pre -Internet days!

Been there many times. Go Dusters! I grew up a couple of hours north of there but now live near York.
Go Dusters indeed! I've been through York many times on my way to and from the airport. I can't say I've stopped for anything but a bathroom break and a soda. For years I've toyed with the idea of writing a book called "A Full Tank and an Empty Bladder: How to Travel the Plains." I feel like it's solid advice to let people know that you aren't going to find a lot of pitstops on the Plains. Go Dukes!

Maybe not a bad idea for a book! 😆

I always thought his last act was that he was meeting with some Congressman late in the day and was running late for the theatre, so he wrote out a note to let the Congressman come to see him first thing in the morning. Can't remember the Congressman, though. Maybe that does not qualify as his last official act, though.

Maybe this should be more "last official signature" then. Could it have been a governor instead of a congressman that you remember?

Actually "An Empty Tank and a Full Bladder" best describes my travels.

I'm actually a Husky. I teach at a smaller school north of York. Land of the consolidated or co-oped rural schools. I'm actually more from central Nebraska where the land isn't so flat.
I will amend my cheer and say "Go, Huskies!" Yep. There are a lot of consolidated schools out here in TN too. Although I can't in all good faith call them truly "rural."

My school is made up of two districts (hyphenated name) but comprises four different villages but we also pull kids from neighboring districts. We have about 400 total students K-12.

I remember those days of K-12 schools. When we moved to TN, my kids went from 1200 kids in a K-12 (Alma) school to 1200 kids in a 9-12 school. The next year they had even more students and no place to put them. They ended up creating a 9th-grade academy, which filled up quickly!
