I agree that Davis knew, and that war was inevitable if the Confederate States had any chance for national independence. I again repeat, once Davis knew, his move against Sumter was a stroke of genius to lessen the odds in the coming war for independence.
Well then you have a different definition of "genius" than I do. However, I will go along with "stroke".
