Lincoln and the Corwyn Amendment

Did Lincoln endorse the Corwyn Amendment as a conciliatory measure, not believing in the morality of it, believing that it wouldn't pass?

How could someone who was not an abolitionist but who favored using all constitutional means possible to combat slavery vote in favor of emasculating any chance of being able to fight it legitimately?
