I found this blanket chest today for $40 and it is 41" length(civil war example is 42") 17" high(same as civil war example) but only 18" wide(original 22") so two out of 3 measurements are pretty close to spot on.(close enough most won't tell specs are slightly off by eyeballing it )A fellow artilleryman in another unit that's a blacksmith willake my handles for material cost.a few iron plates in the right spots and copper tooling foil on lid and were on business!!! Got my table of fire ready.ill let Amish build deviders

Admin please fix so their is only one of each picture
If you will go to your original post and click the edit button at the bottom you can delete which ever photos you need to.

Well if you have a plainer, can get the iron parts, and have specs handy I wouldn't see an issue building one yourself if you have the woodworking experience.

$2,000 bucks may seem like a lot, but one's work is worth something.

Good luck with your project.

You are correct as the hardware and time are the major cost of that chest but it makes me think I might not be charging enough ($8000) for the full scale mountain howitzers I build. I have $3500 worth of hardware and over 250 hours.

A lot of work goes into building a cannon.

Due to an excellent opportunity I've been reading and learning from some others on building cannons. Ton of money time goes into them.

Thanks for sharing this awesome story and photos. I am always amazed how when working with wood (Red or White Oak) how the grains the figure come to life when the piece is finished.
