I am in hot pursuit of a diary belonging to Levi J. Alleman of New York. Levi was a surgeon in the Civil War with USCT 79 & 81 Infantry & NY Veteran Cavalry. This diary contains notes from his medical classes and other information. It was purchased from Cowan Auctions in 2010.
I'm inquiring because I am the Executive Director of the Boone County Historical Society in Boone, Iowa where Alleman came to live after the war as our third doctor and first surgeon in town. We have his 1865 diary (which is absolutely fascinating), 1880 medical record, medical diploma, class cards, etc. We would love to gather what biographical information we can about Levi from his diary from the Civil War years.
I would like to locate the owner of this diary and either A) exchange copies of diaries and information, or B) make an offer to purchase the item for our collection. Any help or hints anybody out there may have are helpful!
