Awesome Bonnie Blue, thanks so much. Never have seen a photo of Larry.

I was just talking to BBF about Larry's research on NBF - I said he's probably sitting with Forrest at a table and getting it from the man himself.

Dammit, Bonny. Now I have to break open another box of Kleenex. I've been leaking for about five hours now.

He was a good friend. And more than a bit fun to hang around with.

One rarely heard a bad word from him. Well, maybe once in a while, but who hasn't kinda lost it now and then?

We have lost a treasure.

I'm sorry. I knew Larry. Not only on this board, but personally. We were friends. As many of y'all are.

I don't know how y'all are gonna sleep tonight. I do know that I won't.

Larry was special.

I'll just remember the time when we were trying to find the the crossing at Sugar Creek, and how we got lost for a while.

Dammit! He got called too early.

To All,

It is 3:38AM here in Columbus, Ohio, and as usual, I went to my computer to see what was going on with this forum. I noticed in my notification section there were two unread messages. M. E. Wolf had sent a message concerning Larry's departure.

That's what I am going to call this event, "Larry's departure." Until this moment I had never seen a picture of Larry (Thanks BBF) nor have I ever met him in person. Larry to me was an endless series of posts on this forum, all of them filled with humor, love of history, respect for his ancestors, and a true Southern charm of a gentleman of grace and poise.

I am filled with an overwhelming sadness and a sense of loss I cannot begin to describe. We here at this forum have lost a friend that cannot be replaced, a man that taught us all something here, about history, about pride in where one comes from, and the joy of exchanging that love of history and ancestors with others who loved to share that history with him. For Larry was not just a member of this forum, he was our friend.

To his family, to the members of his SCV and SUV camps, and to his many friends, here at this forum, and at his home in Tennessee, please accept my respect, my prayers, and my happy knowledge to have know one of the best and gentle souls I have ever come to know in this world.

Larry has departed, and I hope and pray his journey is smooth and joyful one, and that his dearest wishes are even now being fulfilled.

Until our next post, Larry.

Your Friend,
Neil aka Unionblue

If anyone knows where and when his wake or service will be, let me know. Please. Something with a GPS address would be appreciated.

Tomorrow is Monday. It'll take me until Tuesday to get there, but I'd like to be there when he is laid to rest. I owe him that much.

Larry was special.

This is my first post of any substance here and I feel a bit of an interloper at this time of great loss for you all but I have been reading Larry's thoughts and musing practically everyday for some years now and I just had to express my profound sadness at his passing. The sense I got from him was of a man of gentle humour,of much warmth and humanity. He seemed to have a delightful, easy relationship with everybody on this board particularly the longer-established members which,if anything, was enhanced by the North/South thing. He didn't even know I existed but I will miss him hugely. The Lord looks after his own so I just know he'll take care of this good man.

I'm up early this morning as usual and was simply stunned with the news. Larry was a pillar around here and it just won't be the same without him. My prayers go out to his wife and family, it's always difficult to lose a loved one, especially in a sudden and unexpected way. Godspeed Larry Cockerham.

I only knew Larry for a short time, here on the board, but I could tell he was one of the good ones. I extend my prayers and sympathy to his family and friends. He will be greatly missed.

I am absolutely stunned. Larry was a great guy and a true gentleman. This forum will never be the same without him. My deepest condolences to his family. Rest in Peace, Larry.

I never met or knew Larry, only ever read his posts and he always came across as knowledgeable, ever ready to defend his corner, frequently humerous and always as a gentleman. RIP.

Larry has been an integral part of this board since I first arrived, in fact Larry, Unionblue and Ole are the only members still here for that length of time. Larry will always be the gentleman that was interested first and foremost in the actual history of this nation. Larry has always been one of the Southern Gentleman upon which all others were measured few measured up. The man set the bar rather high.

I believe we need to take his passion and carry it on, appreciate what he did in a way we can cherish for years to come. I will be printing out his thread on the AoT US day by day, I reference it enough that I should have done it some time ago.

Larry may be gone but he will never be forgotten.

Rest in Peace
