Thoughts on this CDV would be appreciated.

I am sure there must be images of other Kentucky Military Institute cadets from various eras.
 
I did a quick search and did find a couple images with similar uniforms dated 1881, running out the door for work, if nobody beats me to it I'll find them again and post a link later.
That was the time frame I thought this image might be from (1880s). Without a bit of research I do not know what the Cadets wore during the Civil War era.
 
They actually don't have 1860s uniform. They do have some information. There were 2 different hats. One more for dress and other everyday. The coat they describe is different. This uniform you have pictured looks more like ones after Reconstruction.
