Can any one give me any information on the naval career of Moses Farnsworth of Illinois, who transferred from the 15th Illinois to the USS Gunboat Benton in November of 1861?

Career, post 15th Illinois. Rank at start of Naval Services, Date and Rank of Promotions/Demotions if any, Wounds/Captures/Paroles Location and Dates, if any. Muster out Date.

Heres this.

Benton was part of the western gunboat flotillia which under Army Control was under the command of Navy Officers. The Army and the Navy used seperate and different rep[orting systems. Their muster rolls were called rendevous lists and were only forwarded a couple times of year the rest was documented in logs. It takes time to find Naval records, provided they are available.

Thes are the things you'll need to check.

Ship and/or Station Muster Rolls

Ship and/or Station Pay Master Rolls

Naval Rendezvous Reports (found in the Index to Rendezvous Reports Civil War 1861-1865)
