I just returned home from Gettysburg. The highlight of the week was meeting Matt Atkinson in the visitors center. We spoke for about 30 min. He is a genuinely good person. I'm so glad he didn't turn out to be a jerk lol. I have about 400 photos to go thru now!

So what did you do, where did you go and what's your take on the place. I think you'll find that most if not all NPS personnel are people persons. Comes with the turf.
The photo above of the Irish Wolfhound is one of my favorite areas (the Loop), re-named by the historian Dr. Harry Pfanz as 'Stony Hill' who recognized Kershaw (of Mclaws) for describing the area as such in his report or later in conversation.
Hope you had a good visit. I'm heading that way next week for a few.

I was there last Saturday. The place was swarming with tourists and guides. Had fish and chips at the Appalachian Brewing Company. They had some kind of market at the Diamond going on in the morning. I wonder if the town has that every Saturday?

I'll be there tomorrow morning. We want to see the Plum Run cleanup and I want to take some more pictures for Wednesday's presentation.

LOL, no you don't ask to many questions, I'm just to wiped out from the trip to answer! We stayed at the 1863 INN was there for a whole week. I like staying there because it's right next to the park, (it should be part of the park) and you can be downtown in a matter of minutes. As for food, Gettysburger! The food is off the hook! They have the best burgers and fries ANYWHERE. Some of the best onion soup I've ever had. The above photo is my favorite place to visit on the battlefield. It's the nicest monument there is IMO. It's always the first place I go when we get there, even before we check in the hotel. It's like visiting and old friend.

No he is not. Sometimes it's bad to meet someone you admire only to find out they are fake or phoney. Matt could not have been a nicer guy. He was leaving for the day and took time to chat with us for about 45 min. It was a pleasure to speak with him in person. The funny part is I had a million questions to ask him about the battle but forgot everyone of them.

It is by far my favorite Monument. I love the green granite and the wolfhound. It's always my first stop on the battlefield. As for Matt he could not have been a nicer guy. He was leaving for the day and he took his own time to chat with us. Talking with him made the whole trip!

We stayed at the 1863 INN

The 1863 is the place we stay when we are there for an overnighter. Their "Loyalty Rewards" program makes it VERY affordable, the place is nice, and the location great.

I'm so glad you mentioned that! BEWARE!!!! The ticks are horrendous! We had 8 ticks on us!

I remember one time maybe 20 years ago, me and a friend went out with one of the LBGs and we tramped up and down Culp's Hill. I found one that had attached to my arm and since I had worked at Gettysburg for a summer, we went back to the VC to get a first aid kit and remove it. After we popped that one out, I patted myself down and found 4 more attached to my torso. That was a fun day.

Luckily for us, none of the ones from today had attached so we just brushed them off (although one hitched a ride back to Carlisle before we finally got rid of it; we had brushed it off 3 times including twice out of the window).
