Johnston and Pemberton

A lot of ink has been spilled about Johnston and his attempt or lack thereof to relieve Vicksburg. I'm not sure I've ever seen someone get the dynamic quite the way I see it: a three way negotiation to see who would offer Pemberton better terms.

Except Johnston wanted Pemberton to keep a mini-van with seats for 10,000 kept in the garage at Vicksburg and a '68 GTO with seats for 40,000 to travel all over Mississippi.
