Been a busy week for him but he has painted the major pieces of 3 models.

The top is Elliott's " Double Casemate", middle is Elliott's " Citadel Ship", and the bottom is Elliott's Deep Creek Dismal. Y'all are right. Pine green does look good.

The closest one is the stern of the Albemarle, next up is the stern of the Arkansas, top right is my "Bonner" pattern, center is a 150' "Richmond" class Raleigh/North Carolina/Savannah/Palmetto State/Chicora ( probably Raleigh - he wants to do a blue one), and far left is his Bonner.
OK, I can easily see that now, especially the Arkansas.

Wonderful ! give Jason a well done and big hug from me. They are all great. I love the way the Elliott twin casemate ship looks now I've seen it in three dimensions, I'm convinced that it is what was intended .
I'm going to have to build one for my collection, have to look round to see if I can get some dark green card.

John. The second version Dismal would be too simple. Just have to stretch our casemate block to scale out to 112". But, which version do you feel is closest to what was being built?
The second one, "Gentle Ben must take credit for that. He thought Porter would opt for a reduced version of his 1861 harbour defence vessel, this was before the Albemarle design.

John, So are you saying I have got to cut him another oun? On a design like that with no deck to stand on, how would crew get in the boat. Would a ladder be, say, in the middle broadside and they have to transfer directly from a work boat to the ladder to get on top?

Jimmy, Ben didn't add details like ladders ! Yes you l'd probably have ladders each side, They might not had had boats, being essentially riverine craft, but a couple of small ones slung from davits on the roof would not come amiss.

Pilot house. Both versions don't show one. There are a few more that did not have one. On the Dismal plans, is that a detail that Ben did not include or do you feel that they were not to have them. On these, if they were not to have them as with Chicora, how did the Pilot navigate

I think the pilot may have stood with his head out of a hatchway, as on Chicora. There is some suggestion that late on, a flat roof was added to the hatch on Chicora, but whether it was armoured or not is another question. It might just have been weather protection.

He wanted to paint up the major parts of the Bonner tonight. So he went to work.

John, I broke the bad news to him about the Dismal. When he saw the other plan he said " that is easy. Its just a casemate." We will cut it out tomorrow. He said he would put the first one on the doodle shelf and the corrected version on the "under construction" shelf with the floating battery.

Mr John,

This is Jason. I want to do the wildest and craziest plan that you think was ever built or under construction.

Jimmy again: the kind of questions the little guy comes up with "Wouldn't the smokestack block the air from going into the cowl?" My answer "That is how Mr John drew it."
