Okay, I was doing some research about the children of James Longstreet and found this.

Now there are a few (very few) places that try to give our dear Pete a middle name (including Pete). However in his case I´ve never seen Titus before. Who and why and how do we come to Titus?!?

Now geni.com has a James Titus Longstreet who seems to be another person with a wife and a kid born in Indiana with a few respective details ... but messes up again when it gives the birthday as that of the original James Longstreet.

Looking back on tivel.com there are 3 families; the first two are those of the general and the third one contains the one for James T. Longstreet on geni; merging the two (or not) persons.

Who messed up in the first place? And, to those with access to census data etc., what is known about the real James Titus Longstreet?

Good question. The source you cite points to an Ancestry family tree. It, in turn, links to several different census records, including one that lists his middle initial as G. Some of the census records list inconsistent family members. Not sure how much confidence I would place in this particular source. Public ancestry trees are a great place to look for clues, but should not be relied on without verification of the stated facts.

Can't recall where but I seem to remember seeing General Longstreet named as James A. Longstreet in a print source before.
