The man on the far left is Colonel James Longstreet Whelchel. He was the grandson of CS General James Longstreet. His brother is fifth from left. The would be 3rd cousins 4x removed. This was taken at Gettysburg and they are with General George Pickett's family.

I think I wrote much of that before, but as he´s brought up again I´ll bring it up again.

Col. Whelchel graduated from West Point, Class of 1918. A son of Maria Louisa Longstreet, and brother of David Lee Whelchel, he was sent to France right after graduating (though most likely too late to participate in WWI). He later fought in World War II, being in North Africa, Italy and southern France. Having served with the coastal artillery and then as quartermaster, he received the Legion of Merit and retired in 1954, apparently as a quartermaster of the 1st Army. According to an obituary he was married twice (divorced once) and was active in civil war stuff as well.
