Stonewall Jackson's Mother

Notice that according to the historical marker, the monument over her grave was placed after the war and Stonewall's own death, making its location at least questionable. In his massive biography, James Robertson says that when Jackson visited the site in the 1850's, he had to get a local "old timer" to show him where she was buried, and supposedly even then he wasn't positive he'd found the right spot.

Jackson's mom was buried in a peach orchard - which isn't there anymore, obviously! That's kind of interesting, considering Jackson's favorite fruit was peaches. But I'm not surprised he wasn't sure where she was as he was only six or seven when she died. His stepfather, Blake Woodson, was apparently a hard man. He didn't like the kids and sent them off. She had married for financial security - it was tough times. The two Jackson boys bounced into the general store one summer without their shirts and the storekeeper asked them where their clothes were. Being washed, only shirts they had. The storekeeper thought about what might happen when the boys' pants needed washing and gave them a bolt of cloth to take to their mom!

@diane Are those peach trees in the background?

I can't tell really but wouldn't be a bit surprised. I'm wrong though about her burial in a peach orchard - she was born in one!
