Thy did that so the Run would not wash out the road. It is very rough to drive over.

Have you also seen the spot where Jackson was fatally wounded in friendly fire? It looks nondescript, and yet maybe the fate of the Confederacy was decided there ... on the photo it's at the end of that barely visible trail in the middle. The marker stands a few meters away from it.

Right behind the Chancellorsville visitor center. Here is the marker. The trail is nicer now.
