I visited VMI last summer and took the cadet guided tour. Outstanding! It was during class break but the few cadets there all said "good morning sir" when passing by. It was very refreshing. I am a teacher in a large urban school district and seldom am I called "sir".

I would like to see the ceremony for the "Battle of New Market" in May. That's when they have an assembly at the statue, call the roll for the 10 cadets killed there and reply "died on the field of battle".

My favorite professor used to take her coffee to the cemetery every morning when she was taking a grad class there and talk to his other statue....hoping, she said, he'd eventually talk back, LOL. She's the one who convinced me it was good to admit being a history geek!
