VMI Officers Cap

I got to make a quick visit to the New Market Battlefield and museum today, and I noticed this painting of an officer with a double-visor kepi. Just wondering if this was a common piece of kit for VMI officers, or not??

I think that´s meant to be more like a havelock. I´m not sure I´d trust this painting too much, given the number of times it was repainted.

Considering the neck part is shown as black, perhaps it intends to depict the havelock cover of oil cloth.
