Yes, the long dreamed-for searchable database of the NAMES that appear on monuments of Civil War battlefields of PEOPLE whom we honor IS HAPPENING! I've cleared the project with the folks at Antietam and Gettysburg and I'm tackling the big ones first.
I propose a database that will list the person's name and rank, field where the monument is located, name of the monument, and a link to any website where a photo or other information about the monument can be seen. Pretty simple - I don't want it to get too complicated.
All the names from Antietam are ready to go - I have them in a MS Spreadsheet format. I've begun adding those from Gettysburg (which will be a real chore, because the PA Memorial has thousands of names all by itself). It's going to take a lo---ng time, but I'm nothing if not persistent.
What I need to make this database a reality is HELP!
1. Anybody who wants to start compiling names from another field - go for it!
2. Anybody who can help me build the searchable database and website - great!
3. Anybody who can help me figure out how to get a website up and running - great!
Some of you have offered before - if you still can, let me know.
