This sub-thread on the value of the loss of Ft. Fisher seems to be finished --- can we return to the value of ironclads (ie the OP)?
How many German American officers and soldiers were in the Grant/Thomas army at Chattanooga? I'm not doing that thread either.
I am not going to explain why is was likely the Confederacy could import 400,000 shoulder arms but not 50,000 tons per year of railroad iron.
I am not going to ask if the sutlers were allowed to sell beer to the German American soldiers.
