I visited Fort Pickens some years back. I thought the Fort was interesting. I had limited time and the time it took to get to the Fort kept me from seeing other sites and doing other things.

My wife is discussing a lightening trip to see her sister in Florida and a quick visit to that area might be possible. We have never seen Charleston and that is the other option on our way to Florida. I am a bit hesitant to do either and we could use the vacation savings to extend our planned trip to Maine. Still an opportunity to see Charleston is tempting.

I am in the Company of Miliary Historians and each year we have our 3 to 4 day conference in different cites, this includes a day long field trip. I keep wishing the Company will do Charleston. Without a local chapter to host a convention, the Fort Pickens area is not a possibility. I am about given up hope that Charleston will be selected and need to go on my own. What can one say, so many great military history sites and only one convention per year. So this year's convention is in Maine and not South Carolina.
