I was just looking a photos of Mr. James. The war must have done quite the number on him. As if it prematurely aged him. What's strange though (amd I'm not starting a body double conspiracy thread) is that along tge kine he looks different in almost ever photograph.

It does. You can only get shot full of holes so many times too. I found tge repeal of the Partisan Ranger Act to make sense, particularly as they were starting to get the idea of war crimes. Such as it was.

They said though those 'out of uniform' could be shot on sight. I'm thinking that the particular rule counted for at least 40% troops in the Trans-Mississippi.

i am eternally optimistic. Every time I see one I am the same way like oh brother we found a treasure, but we probably didn't. Like with the above photo there is definitely a favoring but without provenance you could never prove it just off a picture alone.

I do oversee my concerns regarding the handwriting on the back reading Geo[rge] W. Stout from San Jose, California. I must say in advance that Mr. Stout wrote Respectfully yours which is (usally) only used when writing to someone. There needs to be some research done regarding this man but I have no lead...

I agree... but the man in the CDV looks similar; Same eyes, Same hairline, beard, and etc.

He's the rock star of the ACW. I did a thread a few years probally no other figure has as many song, book, film representation.

Though it is funny picture thing doesn't seem to happen much to anyone else from ACW. Think there was a Lincoln one few years ago.....but was one those ones from such a distance could have alleged bout anyone
