Is it era?

I have come into possesion of this photo box. Can anyone tell me if it is civil war era? or after? there is no history or names or anything on the box.I have not tried to take the picture out of its frame for fear of damage.

Hard to put a date on it for me. I think it could even be pre Civil War.

Don't expose the image to light or it will eventually fade. I can't say how to preserve the case. Have you looked under the velvet for any ID? I have one from about 1861--or had I should say--and it had some initials on onion paper under the velvet.

It's one of those pics where I have a knee jerk reaction to say closer to 1900 than 1860. I can't say why exactly but the dresses the young ladies are wearing don't look right. Hopefully one of the ladies will step in & correct me.

Visible ears on young women starts around 1869, but these are girls, not grown women.
