Interesting article about Springfield Armory.

I visited there now quite a few years back - the main building serves as the NPS Springfield Armory National Historic Site, while the other buildings are part of a regional junior college. Another nearby facillity for making arms was the Ames Manufacturing Company in neighboring Chicopee, home to the latest multi-billionaire lotto winner; the Ames factory made thousands of U.S. regulation swords and sabers and still stands but has now been converted into condos!

Very interesting and I'm glad you posted it.

My daughter and I went to a shooting jamboree last June and among other things, the had black powder muskets we could fire. One of the fellows there told me that long after the CW, the amory found a musket which had 13 charges rammed into it! Somehow the musket never discharged and he said in heat of battle with smoke everywhere, a soldier wouldn't have known if the gun went off or not.
