OK, back at it with another map. I welcome any comments, and shall investigate all inquiries with alacrity and at all hazards, if practicable.

I always appreciate and enjoy good battle maps.

I'm curious if you have consulted good map sources such as those from Gottfried and Laino. I do believe that some of your regiments are not positioned where other maps show them. For example, you show the regiments of Biddle's brigade to be in the marshy swale, between the seminary and McPherson's ridge. I believe that this brigade was positioned near the crest of the ridge near Reynolds Ave. It wouldn't make sense for them to be in the low ground as you show it.

Maps are wonderful mysteries to someone who can still get lost down a rabbit hole, trying to find anything- and I have a kid who was the most visited student ever through 4 years at Gettysburg College. ( just being attentive, like a good parent.... ). You map creators have all my respect, thanks for bringing yours here!

Indeed that is odd with Biddle's brigade. I placed them first when I started working on it a couple of weeks ago. The icons should roughly match the markers on Reynolds Ave.

I shall change that today.

I found it a little interesting to place XI Corps troops. They were strung out all over the place. Also, what is going on with the 3rd Alabama?

Egads! A simple copy and paste error between excel sheets. I grabbed the locations for Biddle's Brigade from the area before they moved up to the ridge. I changed the lat/longs and updated the map as of 0730 hours Eastern, 2018-06-03

Just purchased Gottfried's book.

I am still trying to figure out what is interactive about this map. All I am seeing is a static map covered in flags.

The 3rd Alabama was ordered to form on the left of Daniel's Brigade, ostensibly because there wasn't room for them with O'Neal's line. In addition, Rodes detached the 5th Alabama as a reserve under his personal direction which resulted in O'Neal attacking with only 3 regiments. O'Neal may have believed that the 3rd and 5th were going to form a second line behind his battle line but whatever the case, he considered both regiments detached and not under his command. In fact, he complained in his report that he had never been given an explanation for why these units had been taken from him.

My interpretation differs greatly in times and locations:

I have Iverson's brigade making their attack just after 2 p.m., and O'Neal's second (main) attack coming at 2:20 p.m.

I have Biddle's brigade aligned with the Hagerstown/Fairfield road (116) and facing north until about 2:40 p.m., then advancing northward in the depression. They did not swing around to face westward along the ridge until just prior to Pettigrew's advance at 3 p.m.

Daniel's brigade has not moved, in fact does not even appear on your 2:45 map. I figure they were already engaged by 2:15 p.m. at the far west railroad cut and in front of Shead's woods.

Paul's brigade also seems to be entirely absent. They were posted near the Seminary until 2:15 p.m., then began moving north to assist Baxter by my calculations.

I shall have a look at those timings, but I fear from my present vantage that there will be wide variance, but that makes it interesting I believe.

I copied the static maps from the book as close as I could, in the prior map an event depicts Paul's movement, but not for this iteration. I shall consult other sources as they come in. As for Daniel's Brigade, movement with this software is difficult to show, so I used an event to state as such. Now, I can create icons for arrows ad infinitum, but I think for the next go around I can just add arrows for 8 compass points.

I believe Gottfried's book will be in my possession by Wednesday, and I'm fairly certain the local library has a dust-covered copy of Pfanz's little gem.

this does not work for me, my java is up to date and I just downloaded the add on that you suggested. Do you have any other suggestions how I make it work?

Indeed. I intend to learn that method, but it will take some time. I really like that it is on the old-style map, as one can compare the actual with the current terrain.

I like that you are showing individual regiments. As you know, that can be difficult and tricky.

No doubt.

Pfanz's book was lying in wait at the library as I predicted. Within the first 5 minutes I found an interesting discrepancy about the position of the 45th NY (west or east of the Mummasburg Rd., and when?) More to follow...
