Hi friends. From what I could find, most CSA surgeons held the rank and emolument equivalent to either Cavalry Major or Captain, although there were lieutenants as well. What I cannot find is what headgear was usually worn? I found a picture of a captain's kepi, with the scroll and black trim but don't know if this were the "usual" issue.
So, would you know:
1. whether surgeons usually wore the Kepi or Slouch hat?
2. If slouch, was any unit badge, insignia, etc worn on the hat?
3. If slouch, was colored braid signifying brank on the hat?
Thank you all for your previous gracious and thoughtful replies and for helping me make history come alive for future generations.
I hope to portray a Surgeon and would like to learn and be able to teach as well.
PS. Did CSA officers wear any rank-identifying cloth or metal badges at the neck of capes, when they wore capes? I saw a modern picture of a cape with cloth insignia at the Quartermaster Shop but have no idea whether that was fantasy or not.
