And to my relief I see a window! I had feared the officers quarters were deep inside the walls, without a window for daylight and ventilation ...
But probably Davis's prison quarters were less snugly than the officers quarters. His casemate was unheated and had an open window, so that even Union Surgeon John Craven recommended more humane quarters.
