My wife bought this trunk for my birthday a few years back. because it had a Calendar pasted in the lead from 100 years before my birth. trying to find some information on it. The calendar is from 1859, so I would say pre civil war. thanks

Nice gift! I'm no good at looking at nail heads and such and getting information. But I can tell you that there were four places in the US that the Library of Congress says had a newspaper called the Democratic Mirror. The ones publishing (for sure) in January of 1859 were located in Leesburg, Virginia and Marion, Ohio. Neither appears to be digitized. Where did your wife buy the trunk?

If the newspaper is from Marion, Ohio, then the Marion Public Library has it on microfilm and the Ohio Historical Society in Columbus has the originals and copies of them on microfilm. If it is from Leesburg, Virginia, then only scattered editions are available of the originals and microfilm copies. It doesn't appear that the first issue for 1859, which would have the carrier's address, is among them.

Thanks every one, it says Leeburg VA on the paper, I am trying to find out about the chest/footlocker. She found the trunk on market place in southern west WV.
