Ah! I'll be looking to YOU for information some day! I've made it as far as Bentonville, but I haven't made it to Fisher's Island yet - something (a tropical storm, a relative who insists that I stay the night, a global pandemic....) always happens when I try, and I've been trying every April for several years now (I live in Massachusetts). The Naval Academy book will probably take me about 10 years just to research - there are a lot of moving parts, and as I envision it, I'll basically have to write a whole book on each of the six guys I hope to follow (Preston and Porter who died on the beach being two of them) and then merge them all together into one long story.
But first I have to finish the book on Andersonville, and there are two more non-Civil War books I need to write after that. I just have to live long enough to meet all of my ambitions!
Congratulations on the new position. There aren't a lot of CW related places to visit up my way, so I'm just a little bit jealous!
