I have an ancestor named Peter W Manley. His grave is a Confederate stone the says Company F 2nd Kentucky Mounted Rifles on it. The only Confederate Record I can find for a Peter Manley is one for Company C Ficklin's Battalion Kentucky Infantry. This Record says that this Peter Manley enlisted in Bath County Kentucky so it adds up that this would be him. I cannot find any information on Ficklin's Battalion or the 2nd Kentucky Mounted Rifles. I don't know if the regiments ever merged or what. If anyone has any information it would be very helpful.

The records on Fold3 for Ficklin's Battalion state that Company C, where Peter Manley served, became Company B of the 5th Kentucky Infantry in November of 1862. It appears that there are no rolls for anyone in that unit except those whose names start with "B." The 2nd Battalion of Mounted Rifles has a similar problem - they only have records for men whose names end in the letters "A' through "L." So your ancestor isn't the only person missing here. I checked the pension index for Kentucky and did not see an application there.

One interesting thing I did turn up - a Peter Manley was arrested at Maysville after being accused of spying and/or supporting the Confederacy. That's not so far from Bath County - could that have been your ancestor?

@JacobCSA - just making sure you saw this answer, as you'd not responded.

There's quite a bit of information on John L. Foster at the Fold3 website. He enlisted October 14 1861 for three years. He was 24 years old, 6 foot one inches tall, had blue eyes and fair hair. He was born in Bullitt County, Kentucky and worked as a farmer at the time of enlistment. He evidently enlisted as a private but began acting as sergeant almost immediately and was promoted to 2nd lieutenant in October of 1862. He was wounded at Chaplin Hills/Perryville and left in the hospital that same month. He was back with his company by April of 1863. A note says he resigned in October of 1863 but the muster roll for November/December of 1863 still has him listed. It does note he was "In charge of convalescent barracks" so he may have been too ill or wounded to serve fully. In February of 1864 he was promoted to 1st lieutenant. A note on the January/February 1864 muster roll says "been in charge of company since Oct 26/63" and in March of 1864 he is promoted to captain. The May/June 1864 muster roll notes he was sick in the officers hospital in Chattanooga. The last timeline information is that he was present through November 1864.

I wonder if you found my ancestor or another John L. Foster. My great, great, grandfather had dark hair and eyes.

There is only one John L Foster in that regiment. It's possible his personal description could be wrong. Or your regiment information could be off. This man died in 1900.

I want to find out information about my 2nd great grandfather, John Lovelace Foster's, 15th regiment Kentucky. He was in the infantry Company D.
After doing further research on my ancestor, I realize the John Lovelace I thought was my 2nd great grandfather is not the same John Lovelace. But, thanks for your help. I would not have figured this out if you had not helped me.
