My ggg-grandfather Samuel S Todd and two of his friends deserted from the Confederate Army and joined the Union Army on March 28, 1862. they were from TN but joined the Iowa 14th. On the first day of the Battle of Shiloh they were captured. They were carried to Corinth, MS were one of the others guys with Samuel was recognized and executed for being a deserter. I've been told that one of the officers reports said Samuel was recognized also but wasn't arrested. How would I find this report? I'm interested in finding out if the was recognized or not.
