I've never been a soldier so I can only imagine the quiet of a morning before the first guns go off on a day men will die - wondering if your number is coming up... a ghostly mist shrouding the future.
Again, thanks for sharing!
 
Both beautiful and intimidating, looking down a cannon barrel!

The scene reminds me of the Battle of Nashville, that foggy morning when the Union attacked Hood's army, who had been waiting for supplies and reinforcements for two weeks under a blanket of snow at the foot of a hill where Fort Negley protected Nashville.
