Good news: According to the publisher, the Opening Manassas book is at the printer and targeted for September release.

Looking forward to a fresh take on Brawner's Farm by two dedicated and well-respected authors. Only other title I can think of regarding this battle is by Alan D Gaff: Brave Men's Tears.

That's the current stand alone study so far as I know (and it's nearly 40 years old). As pointed out, this one will not only be the new update, but looks to be unique with its "fog of war" approach regarding what each commander knew at the time in the midst of a lot of maneuvering just before the collision.

As I posted in the OP< I am looking forward to it. I only posted above because Opening Manassas is headed to the finish line. Bobby Krick's vol. 1 on Gaines's Mill, by the way, has an interesting take on Hill's performance on June 27.

Caveat: I haven't finished vol. 1 yet. But let's just say that thus far, and based on his assessment of Hill's c and c getting his troops into the fighting, if I were Harvey I wouldn't list him as a reference.

I'm no military analyst but my study of the histories of the 1st and 3rd NC Infantry Regiments have led me to conclude that it was bad luck indeed for those regiments to be assigned to DH Hill's command in 1862. Hill may not have been personally to blame for all the blunders, mishaps and misfortunes that afflicted his division. but he can't escape all responsibility.

Borrow from your library! If you own your home, you're already paying a library levy in your property tax, so use the service. If you live in an unincorporated area and have a buy a library card, it will still be cheaper than buying all those books.

Yes ma'am I borrow from my local library. We have a system called NC Cardinal which allows us to borrow from all across the state from many many libraries. I'm very very thankful for my local library and never take it for granted. I was just being silly with my quote.

Of course, if you buy them you don't have to give them back. Granted, if you're disorganized and have a massive number like me, make sure your homeowner's insurance doesn't exclude "tripping over books." In all seriousness, smaller targeted publishers such as Savas Beatie who turn out these excellent publications deserve our support.
