This is my bucket list trip to Gettysburg and surrounding battlefields. We arrived late, so just did a courtesy drive-thru. I was seriously moved to tears in just the short time I was strolling the area around the Pennsylvania Monument......Gonna be an emotional week I guess.

Gosh, Moonshiner, those pictures are beautiful! The lone cannon especially is just so evocative and gorgeous- with the backdrop of the sunset to light it up.

And you're right. The battlefield is just such a moving place. We were there when it was raining, and we just looked out over Little Round Top- and it's weird- you can just feel that this is truly hallowed ground- ground haunted by the sacrifice and greatness and tragedy of men who gave their lives for their country.

A couple of these photos should be enter in the photo of the month contest!

What's funny is, no matter how much I prepared for this trip, I really had no idea how large the battlefield areas are - Almost 25 square miles.

I thought I knew what I was doing as I studied up on this trip pretty good, but as we are just driving around in circle, I kept wondering what this large set of artillery and monuments were... On the 3rd time by I slowed down and read it was Cemetery Hill .... HaHa!

Excellent pictures, Moonshiner, and have fun with the rest of your trip! Monocacy is one of my favourite battlefields. I know you will enjoy it. Keep the pictures coming!
