I was moving items about in my library and thought it might be interesting to let our uniform experts identify this Civil War era uniform. I know what is being depicted, but how long will it take our uniform people to come up with the right answer? Way too many clues, I am guessing this one will not take long.

This is from a Company of Military Historians, Uniforms in America plate series. OK it is not really Civil War era and although it is a uniform worn in America I am not saying it has to be North America.

I am moving a bunch of old uniform plates around. I am not sure where to store this plate.

Attention Moderators: Please feel free to delete since this not Civil War related. With that said, seventeen Legionnaires later served in the Union Army. This has been fully documented.

Any thoughts on which regiment these two chaps come from? I have no clue myself, I'm not sure if its an artist interpretation or if these are real uniforms. They look like infantry uniforms from the Crimea. The rule of thumb for working out the facings and colours on uniforms is,
blue for Royals, white for English & Welsh, green for Irish, and yellow for Scottish.

I'm very confused by this picture.

They have green facings. I would wager that cover art is based on the Inneskelling Fusiliers, which I think is the 27th Foot. Not that you can trust cover art...

I wonder if the British uniforms show Irish units? They way they are facing off makes me think the art work is about the Irish immigrants of the Union and the Irish immigrants of the confederacy fighting each other.
