Some folks may recall last month I was gifted an interesting cut down Enfield, (https://civilwartalk.com/threads/very-interesting-enfield-carbine.184011/) by my good friend Tom, well today I went to the Texarkana Gun Show, and same fella he grabbed it off of, had another interesting gun I took home with me today. Seems he acquired both in Arkansas, which suits me down to the ground just fine as I've been slightly obsessed with studying the War and Reconstruction there. (Some book reviews may be incoming...)

It's a basic rusty as can be M1817 Common Rifle converted to percussion and cut down slightly. I ain't had a cleaning and fix up gun project in a while, and the seller has gotten pretty old and feeble. Still hard to imagine that Arkansas-patriot is the same guy I got into a slightly playful, slightly hostile, Bowie knife standoff years ago over our State Prides/Rivalries. But seeing how I've been interested in looking over M1814's and M1817's, I think this gun a good place to start.

Has the crudest ramrod and front sight I've seen in a while. May be Confederate, may not be (Tom thinks it is) but it's a M1817 that appears to have gone to H*ll and back.

I made off with an M1817, Tom made off with an interesting Indian War pistol cartridge box and Mexican War flask. I'd say we had a good trip to a gun show.
