Unfortunately his grave according to his findagrave is unmarked.

Is there anyone who could pull any records to find out where exactly he's buried?

Because surely the cemetery has records of where he was laid to rest.

GREAT Thread. Thanks for posting. I'm sure some of our folks can find where he is buried.

The mortality schedule for the 1880 US Census has Charlie Benger in it - death due to old age, no doctor, age 88, born in Georgia. He does show up in records as a musician with Company B, 2nd Battalion artillery.

The Freedman's Bank records show an Ellen Benger who says her husband Charles is in Macon in 1868. She is 32 years old with two daughters, one 14 and one 3. But I find no records for Charles.

It may well be that the grave site is unknown. Unless the cemetery kept very good records, with exact lot numbers and plot descriptions, then without a marker the exact location could be lost.

For some unknown reason I didn't post the cemetery name.

He is buried in Old City Cemetery, Macon Georgia.

Thanks for the reference to the mortality schedule and freedmen's bank. I'll have a look.
