Hickahalla Creek is out of it's banks here in this photo taken March 13th. Due to the heavy flooding because of the rains it's out of its banks now just as it was when Forrest had to patch the old bridge when he went into Memphis to spook the yankees and put the "skeer" on them in 1864. I was standing on the new bridge on US Hwy 51 to take the picture. Hwy 51 was the road that Forrest traveled on the Memphis raid. It's rather large for a creek as it about 100' across when it's at its normal level of about 15' depth. In the Coldwater Bottoms, it's a poplar fishing spot for bank fishing by the locals and I've been known to gather up some really large bull frogs in the summer time there. Hickahalla Creek flows into the Coldwater River about 3 miles northwest of this spot. Like in 1864 the Coldwater River is out of its banks too and even more interesting the bridge there is damaged and closed because of the flow of the rushing water. Forrest would easily recognise all this now as he encountered the same conditions on his trip to Memphis. Sorry for it being sideways. If anyone knows how to rotate it please do so. I do know, if you're using Chrome, you can right click on the image and select "open in a new tab" and it will be positioned correctly.
