Greetings CWT community,

I recently acquired a veterans flag from the Greenville SC area, and wondering about the age on some apparent kepi badges. The flag is small (~8x10), and everything on it is dead to blacklight, FWIW, except for a few filaments in the paper to which it appears to have been glued at some point (pictured), via the backs of the badges. I believe the flag to be authentic, and late 19th/early 20thC, but am curious about the badges. Any input from uniform/cloth experts greatly appreciated!

Interesting flag and badges. I am sorry that I can not help on the age, but expect others will be able to help you.

Nice little hand held parade flag. From the material and screen printing I would date it to the 1920 + and it would have had a wooden stick. The backing behind the palm trees hat badges was added in order to attach it to the flag.

Many thanks, @ucvrelics! Parade flag def makes sense, and appreciate the dating. Any clue on the age of the badges? Assumed they were post-war era, but I have very little experience with era uniforms and/or antique fabrics.

They are more than likley same period as the flag. Its hard to say from photos but I don't believe their CW period. This was probably done for the UCV National reunion held in Columbia SC in 1938.

Nice! Being much more familiar with GAR memorabilia, due to price and availability, I have a number of books on the organization and various collectables. I would love to know more about UCV/UDC - do you have any suggestions for reference materials?

Again, really appreciate the info!
