Help with identified soldier

Hello,
I'm wondering if anyone has any ideas how to narrow down where this soldier, identified as Tim White in this ambrotype may have lived/served. Since White is such a common name it may be difficult unless there are some visual clues that I am missing. It was an estate sale purchase, but since I have four separate families named White in my ancestry, it would be a shame to sell it and then find out he was related. Any ideas will be much appreciated!
Thanks,
Larry

Welcome to the forums! Your subject is a sergeant, probably of infantry since he appears to be wearing the standard nine-button frock coat worn by infantrymen and members of what were known as foot or garrison artillery regiments.

No I do not see anything that would help identify the soldier. so0 unless there is something on the back of the image or some other clue, it will be very difficult to even know what sate he is from.
