I agree, @lupaglupa and @19thGeorgia, the first name certainly does look like Peter. If the last name starts with a C, could it be Caron? If it's an M, maybe Mason?

Yes, might be Mason. Flourishes high like the "s" on the first name listed (Jas)

Looks like "10th Va." (Virginia) - but the Union didn't have a 10th Virginia regiment.

It was the 10th West Virginia.

Record shows he died of pneumonia as a prisoner of war.
