Will you permit me to express to you the deep respect and esteem which I feel for you, and let me venture to hope that you will allow me to call my feeling by even to answer {naine}? from the day when I had the pleasure of getting acquianted with you, your image has ever been present with me, and ?from friendship I have grown to feel the most ardent love for you and {?}. you must have read something of my heart during my visits, and this leads me to hope that you will not utterly discard my petition.

What looks like "fs" is classic old German writing style for "ss". Same with the added "e's" on ends of words like feel(e) and esteem(e).
Thats for sure Littlestown......my gg grandfather Wm C Cross always wrote his name with the "f" looking letter signifying the double "s." It can sure result in some difficulty today. Often transcribed as Crofs or Crops or Croft.

the [?] name. "...to call my feeling by even the[?] name. The ? is an adjective or maybe adverb.

I have Criss ancestors, so I discovered the double s/ fs a long time ago. I hate deciphering old letters/writing. It hurts my head. :frown:
