Help With Canteen Identification

Looking for help in identifying this canteen I have had for awhile. Could this be a medical canteen or civilian purchase? I am thinking it is Civil War but am not too sure.

Measures H- apx.8 1/2, W apx. 7 3/4. D- apx, 2 ½. Missing the strap guides and was rigged up at some point with wire for use. I have added the leather strap and cork for display purposes.

Does it have markings where sling guides were? It doesn't look military to me. Could have been covered in cloth at one point. Interesting piece. I like the rigged wire loops for using a sling.

No, there are no markings that I can see anywhere. Yeah I like that field repair that was done, pretty unique
