Interesting find today. Was at an antique shope and found a this specimen. I obviously noticed how short it was. I thought it was cut down but looking closely at the tip it, it dosnt seem to be cut or modified. The socket is almost an inch wide. Only marking appears to be a lower case L? No British or U.S. marking Help or thoughts?!

Socket is approximately 2 1/4"
$25!!!!!!!!!!! What a score the average price on those crappy $300, good $600-650. Period 1740 to early 1760. Socket can vary on those from 2 1/4 - 2 3/4. France sent thousands to America. So if France sent 100,000 muskets here during our ACW you can imagen how many bayonets came here. Not counting what was already here during the French & Indian war.

Now buy a Rev War period Charleville (French) musket to mount it on. But hurry prices are going up due to the Ken Burns Special and the Nations 250th Anniversary. I'm still shock at the low prices of them at Auctions.

Poulins Auction has one starting at $1000. Bonhams just had an auction and several went from about $1500-5000 I believe. Of course the higher end ones will be marked/stamped "US" or "United States" or "U States" etc.

If you interested you could add a REV War French sword/hanger to your collection of the bayonet. France sent over 25,000 to us. I have 3 and I'll be selling 2 no later than the end of March.
