I have been going back and researching my ancestor with more detail and I have come across something interesting to me. My GGG Grandfather Robert McEver enlisted with the 16th Battalion, Georgia Partisan Rangers, which became the 16th Georgia Cavalry, which then became the 13th Georgia Cavalry. They spent time with Morgan during his exploits, then were under John C. Vaughn and Piedmont and Morristown, then moved east into North Carolina where they hoped to join General Johnston. They next became the escort for Jefferson Davis as he fled through NC.

Here is the page in my website devoted to McEver:

My main hope is that someone here has a book on Morgan that is willing to glance at the index to see if there are any details on the 16th Georgia. If there is I'd probably go on Amazon and buy the book.

Thanks!

I would suggest you contact the Morgan's Men Association. Their website shows two Georgia Units under John Hunt Morgan. They are:

Company "A" 14th Battalion, "Palmer's Battery" Georgia Light Artillery

and

16th Georgia Cavalry Battalion which was part of Vaughn's Brigade in Dept. of West Virginia-East Tennessee after April, 1864.

My husband belongs to the Association. We are friends with several members and officers. I can write organization and ask if they have more information on the 16th Georgia Cavalry Battalion.

The list of Units is at:

I am still trying to prove that one of my ancestors rode with Morgan. It took me quite a while to find my husband's ancestor.
